On a very special day (October 1, 2017) the weather gods decided that the Birthday peloton would remain dry. Unlike Vancouver, Langley was quite gray and cold early on but by the end and coffee and eats we were in beautiful sunshine, very fitting.
Friday evening 50 family, friends and Velo Vets enjoyed and celebrated Bob’s 90 th Birthday, the look on Bob’s face when he entered Musette Caffe with Terry and his son Steve definitely confirmed we had successfully pulled off the surprise.
Bob was smiling the whole evening and everyone was clearly enjoying the celebration! Musette supplied a good spread of eats and the chatter was steady and loud. Birthday cake and gifts, a very nice gift put together by Terry included all Bobs favorite sweets, chocolate bars, coffee gift certs, etc and Bob had planned on doing spin classes this winter so spin gift certs. If you saw him ride yesterday not sure he needs to do spin classes!!! LOL
Some of Bob’s friends have known him for a very long time, I chatted with a fellow from Nanaimo who has known Bob for 62 years, Bob’s family all there, grand children and a great grandson, his daughter Sue from Chillwack and his son Steve came out from Montreal.
Bob told me yesterday he couldn’t get to sleep alter thinking about the evening. We had hoped for a special evening and it exceeded our expectations. Thanks to everyone.
Yesterday morning about 20 riders gathered and led out by Bob we rode a very nice route put together by Terry and Bob, country roads, little traffic and well paced. We eventually noticed Casey was missing and now know he had a flat in the parking lot and couldn’t catch us.
Leo joined in Ft. Langley.
Coffee on the river in Pitt Meadows and then 4 K to the finish and a 90 K ride in the books on Bob’s 90 the Birthday, a remarkable feat. Needless to say Bob rides very strong and shows no sign of slowing down.
Thanks to Terry for leading us though the country roads.
We wish him the best and look forward to 91 next year!! Thank you Bob for sharing a milestone with all of us. It was special and enjoyed by all.
